Tape Measure
To become a successful woodworker, the first tool that must be mastered is the ruler or tape measure. Accurate measuring is a skill that is used almost every day in the shop. In our environment, we will be measuring to the 1/16th of an inch. (It is your responsibility to have either a ruler or tape measure.) For each piece of wood that you work with, you will have to make it the correct length, width and thickness. This is all done with the ruler or tape measure.
Do you recognize the diagram below? What does it represent?
When we say we are measuring to the 16th of an inch, what does it mean?
