Hand Plane

A hand plane is used for shaving off a thin slice of wood from a piece of wood. Planes can be used to joint the face or edge of a piece of wood. The type of hand plane you will use most often in the shop is a Jack Plane. It is different from other planes in that it has a long metal frame.
