Self Introduction in English

  • Hello, everyone! My name is Rui Tan. I am the Mandarin Chinese Teacher at Jackson High School. This is my fifth year at Jackson, I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself and wish every one of you a success in my class.

I grew up in a small town in Northeast of China called Daqing, the largest oilfield in China. People there are honest, righteous, passionate, diligent and brave. I lived there with my family until I went to college to study for my bachelor’s degree in financial engineering. I met my husband in college and we got married after our graduation. My husband came to United States five years ago when he pursued his master’s degree at Case Western Reserve University. My whole family still live in China, which is thousand miles away from here and 12 hours ahead of us. Before coming to the United States, I worked as an accountant for a state-owned oil company. Life here has been interesting and comfortable. I was offered a great opportunity to continue my studies at Cleveland State University on January 2011.  I obtained my Master degree of Teaching Chinese as a Second Language from CSU in May 2012. The study at CSU teaches me how to become an effective educator loving teaching. My strong willingness to become a premier educator growing and thriving with Jackson High School, and my persisted dedication to Chinese teaching will insure a sustainable success for students at Jackson.

My son Oliver was born on September 2015 and I started a new lovely journey since then. I love playing with him, walking my dog, reading books, watching movies, talking to my friends. I love thinking critically on how to better assist my students and familiarize my students with Chinese language and culture.
