LIFE HAPPENS! If you are having issues at school or at home, have a huge exam coming up for another class, or realize you need more time to complete your absolute best work for any other reason, e-mail me and request an extension. You must come talk to me or e-mail me THE DAY BEFORE for the extension to be granted. You cannot come in 5 minutes before class without your assignment and expect an extension. Late assignments (other than homework) will be penalized 10% for each day that it is late. Yes, weekends count!
GRADING POLICY:
Assignments will be weighted according to the expectations of each assignment. Expectations for each assignment will be clearly defined; this includes grading (rubric, product/process...) and due dates. All assignments will fall into two categories:
-
Product= 85% -tests, some quizzes, some exit tickets, essays, projects, presentations, exams
-
Process= 15% -participation, homework, online responses, in-class assignments, journal entries
**PLEASE keep all assignments passed back to you for the quarter. If there is ever an issue with one of your grades in the gradebook, you MUST be able to provide me with the original assignment with the grade I awarded you. Without the assignment, you will not be able to dispute grades. While I am very careful to input grades correctly and save them, technology has its pitfalls. For your own benefit, please keep assignments for this purpose.
GRADING SCALE:
The Jackson High School grading scale is as follows:
A 90 - 100
B 80 - 89
C 70 - 79
D 60 - 69
F 59 - 0
WRITING ASSIGNMENTS:
Students will use their Google Drive for writing assignments. Students will then submit these assignments to Turnitin.com. For some writing assignments, a hard copy will need to be submitted as well. Turnitin submissions are due by 11:59pm the day the assignment is due. Submissions after 11:59pm will result in a 10% late deduction. This deduction occurs for each day the assignment is late.
All papers must be typed and follow MLA or APA format.
Please reference http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/747/01/ for MLA/APA format questions.
Please get your AUPs signed and turned in by the due date to avoid computer/Internet restrictions.
PLAGIARISM: WHAT IS IT AND HOW TO AVOID IT
To plagiarize is defined as taking ideas and writings of another and passing them off as one’s own. Avoid it by not doing it; ie. turning in someone else’s paper as your own; copying a friend’s paper 5 minutes before class; failing to cite a source...
Per the student handbook, the following rules apply for cheating and plagiarism offenses:
1st offense: The teacher will notify the parent/guardian and the incident will be reported to the assistant principal. Upon administrative review, the student may receive no credit or up to 70% of the score if the assignment is allowed to be reworked.
2nd Offense: The student will receive a zero on the assignment.
ABSENTEE POLICY:
YES--WE DID SOMETHING IMPORTANT WHILE YOU WERE ABSENT. It is your responsibility to check with me the day you return to class to find out what you missed. Reference the current week absentee folder for documents you missed.
YES--ELECTRONIC ASSIGNMENTS CAN BE TURNED IN ON TIME,. Electronic assignments are expected to be turned in on the due date, even if you missed school that day. This includes Google Classroom and Turnitin assignments.
YES--UNEXCUSED ABSENCES CAN IMPACT YOUR GRADE. Absences that are coded unexcused will result in a zero for ALL assignments, either announced or unannounced.
YES--YOU ARE EXPECTED TO TAKE A TEST ON THE DAY YOU RETURN IF IT WAS ANNOUNCED.
YES--YOU HAVE AS MANY DAYS AS ABSENT TO COMPLETE YOUR MAKE-UP WORK.
NON-NEGOTIABLES:
