What is included in the program:

The culinary program is a 2-year program that services junior and senior high school students who desire to learn and work in the culinary field.  The program offers 3 credits per year.  The Junior Related class is an in-classroom course that allows time for the ProStart Curriculum to be taught.  Upon completion of the 2-year ProStart curriculum, the students will receive a certificate of completion that allows for college credit and industry bonuses.  Juniors will also use the Related classroom time to learn the ServSafe information and become certified. The seniors will work from the Foundations textbook which aligns with the ProStart curriculum.  The program consists of a full-service restaurant where all students learn various job skills.  These skills include but are not limited to waiter/waitress, host, busser, dishwasher, pantry cook, sandwich cook, grill cook, fryer, and baker.  Most job skills are attained through the student-run restaurant attached to the classroom.  Essentially, this is a working classroom and kitchen environment.

Uniform:

Students are required to wear a black chef's coat, black chef's hat, black chef's pants, black socks, and industry-approved black work shoes.  Please DO NOT purchase these items on your own. We order them through a company, get them embroidered, and pay for them with our Culinary Club funds.  We will discuss in detail the uniform requirements once classes begin in August. We try to create fundraisers that help pay for some of this cost. Please contact the teacher for more information if you have any concerns about the uniforms.
