Welcome to our elementary school libraries!
Amherst Lake Cable Sauder Strausser
Overview:
Jackson Elementary Schools include Amherst, Lake Cable, Sauder, and Strausser schools and serve approximately 2,500 students in grades K-5. Each school has a library staffed by one full-time library technician with an additional half-time library technician at both Sauder and Strausser. A certified librarian oversees the elementary library programs and is responsible for collection development and the research curriculum. The total elementary library collection of all four schools includes approximately 56,000 items. Each library provides three computer stations for students to search the online catalog.
Library Visits:
Students K-5 visit the library weekly with their class for 35 minutes. Library visits include a presentation focused on a particular subject, aligned to the curriculum, and includes a pre-selected, purposeful read-aloud. Students may check out materials during their regularly scheduled class visit.
Circulation Period:
Library books are circulated for a period of one week. If a student forgets his/her book(s) during their regular class visit, they are encouraged to return their book(s) as soon as possible.
