WRITING

Your child will be writing everyday through guided, shared, and independent writing.  This year, students will receive formal instruction on the writing process (brainstorming, rough draft, editing, revising, publishing) and on paragraph development.  Students will produce writings in their writing journals (which can be shown at conferences, but will not go home until the end of the year) and formal assignments that will be put in their files here at school.  My goal is to integrate their writing into many aspects of the curriculum and to help your child be more confident in what they are writing about.  

Second grade is also the year for keyboarding and cursive instruction!  The students will begin keyboarding at the start of the school year to learn and practice efficient typing skills.  They will then learn cursive by about the middle of the year.  We will work through lowercase letters according to stroke formation and then move into uppercase letters.
