New Niche rankings have moved Jackson Local School District up among the best districts in Ohio and named us the No. 1 district in Ohio for student-athletes. Way to go Polar Bears! And thank you to our extended Jackson community for your support, always.
Niche.com helps to connect families with neighborhoods and schools. The website has in-depth profiles of all U.S. school districts and uses a ranking methodology for state and national ratings.
Jackson Local is among the top 6% of school districts in Ohio and the U.S. Jackson Local is the top-rated district in Stark County in Niche's rankings and it is among the top 12% for the best places to teach in Ohio.
In addition to the Niche.com rankings, for the fifth straight year, Jackson High School has earned a Great Schools College Success Award. The GreatSchools 2022 College Success Award means we are following best practices to prepare students for college success after high school.

The Jackson Local School District has a new mass notification system. Please check your spam folder and adjust spam settings as needed. You can whitelist us in your spam settings to ensure communication from the district and building(s) your child(ren) attends reaches you via email. In the previous week, we communicated information about orientation nights for those affected.

The Home Access Center and Clever will be turned on Aug 8 at 4 PM for elementaries and Aug 10 at noon for JHS & JMMS. Homeroom assignments can be found at those times.

The Polar Pups will be at Strausser Elementary for the summer reading program. Bring your favorite book to read with a Polar Pup on the front lawn July 12 from 6-7:30 PM. Students MUST be accompanied by an adult. If the forecast calls for 40% or more of rain, it is canceled.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's free meals for all program is ending. If you think you MIGHT qualify, you should fill out the application for free and reduced meals and fees on our website July 1. Lunch prices for next school year have been set by building. Elementary breakfast is $2, $3 for lunch; JMMS & JHS are $2.50 & $3.50. Premium lunch at JHS is $4.50.

Jackson High School improved to No. 35 in Ohio in the latest US News & World Report rankings of high schools. Jackson was rankedNo. 40 last year and moved up five spots, a 12.5%
improvement from last year. Jackson is ranked 4% of Ohio’s 874 ranked high schools. US News & World Report ranked JHS No. 983 in its national rankings, putting Jackson High School among the top 5.5% of the nearly 18,000 schools ranked in the nation. Jackson received an overall score of 94.49 out of 100.
In addition to the US News & World national rankings, Jackson was recently ranked as the No. 1 district in Ohio based on rankings conducted by backgroundchecks.org. Niche.com ranked Jackson Local Schools No. 3 in Ohio for student-athletes and No. 43 out of 608 Ohio school districts.

JACKSON LOCAL BOE ADOPTS 2022-23 SCHOOL CALENDAR: The Jackson Local School District Board of Education adopted the 2022-23 school year calendar at the January meeting. The first day of school for the 2022-23 school year is scheduled for August 16. Notably, Spring Break will be March 20-24. Please go here to see the calendar and more information.

VISION & HEARING SCREENING:
The Ohio Department of Health requires that all students in grades 9 and 11th be screened for vision and hearing. For the 2021-2022 school year, Vision and hearing screenings for 11th grade will be completed on 3/15/22 during their English classes and 9th grade vision and hearing screenings will be completed on 3/17/22 during World History.The vision screening will test distance visual acuity, and the hearing screen will test conductive hearing loss. Parents/Guardians will be notified by mail of any failures for both vision and hearingscreenings. -
