Get to Know Me

  • As the year progresses, we'll learn more and more about each other, but in case you, or your family, are curious now, here's a little more information about me.

I'm a graduate of Jackson Local Schools; I spent my entire K-12 career in the district, so Jackson holds a special place in my heart. Being a part of such a wonderful school system is really what inspired me to be a teacher. This will be my fourth year as a teacher at Jackson and I'm elated to be teaching my favorite grade.

I earned my Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Ohio University. I spent my years at OU teaching at various rural schools in grades 7-12.

I love, love, love reading. My favorite genre is Young Adult Literature and I'm eager to offer recommendations if you find it challenging to pick a new book that will get you hooked. My favorite hobby is reading, preferably while floating on a raft in the pool under warm rays of sunshine. Don't ask me what my favorite book is, because you'll be listening to me list a myriad of books from different genres that I love for different reasons. My favorite YA series currently is The 5th Wave or Red Queen

My favorite color is purple, and believe it or not, that has little to do with being a Jackson alum and teacher :). I like all kinds of music, so don't be surprised if I recognize the tune you're humming in class. I am obsessed with hot air balloons. The Hall of Fame Balloon Fest is the highlight of my summer, though it's often interrupted by precarious weather. I also love going to the movies, particularly for the movie theater popcorn (even if it is outrageously pricey!).

In my classroom, you will be challenged, you will struggle, and above all, you will succeed.

I'm also a strong advocate for choice and its ability to increase student engagement. It's important for students to make decisions about their own learning, especially in middle school, in order to promote lifelong learning that reaches beyond the four walls of my classroom.

If you have any questions, concerns, or if you're really interested in hearing my list of favorite books, you can contact me by phone or email. I check both compulsively, as we all tend to do nowadays :), and will usually respond rather quickly.
